SpoilersNew, mobile-friendly spoilers can be posted using the following formatting:!X kills Y! I brought the game and am intimidated already by the amount of keyboard controls. I Rarely play games with keyboard except isometric RPGs or Mount and Blade Warband, though I have never really memorized a lot of hotkeys. That being said should I play this game vanilla first with starter tips from you guys.
Or to make things easier control and gameplay wise should I mod this game to make the transition from modern games easier.I personally think the game looks fine. Unless there are must have texture mods for the game that retain the same look and feel for the game.I love Prey as my favorite game of all time and I liked BioShock. I can't really get into Deus Ex 1 because the controls confuse me. I was able to play Arx Fatalis for a tiny bit without much trouble. Is this game even worth playing or is it more nostalgia driven than anything worth playing.I like games such as Underrail because of its character creation, multiple ways to do a quest and combat as well as it's crafting system.
System Shock 2 seems like it might have that.Edit: why did this get downvoted?. A few tips to remember:. In general, psi powers are weaker and less reliable than weapons. Marine is probably the easiest class. Regardless of what class you play, get at least one point in heavy weapons.
Later in the game, certain monsters will drop a fair amount of grenades and you want to be able to use a grenade launcher so you can take advantage of the free ammo. Although 16 O/S upgrades are available in the game, you will only be allowed to pick 4 of them, so choose carefully! I would recommend the speed upgrade, the inventory upgrade, and the damage boosts. The surgical units are important. There are fewer surgical unit activators than surgical units in the game. Try to save the activators for surgical units that are located in convenient places (particularly near the doors on the main elevator shaft).
I forget where exactly all the surgical units are, but activating the one on the med/sci deck is probably a good idea. There are a limited number of icepicks in the game. It is highly recommended to save three of them for the final battle, in order to save yourself a lot of extra headache. If you don't mind cheesing the game, you can use quicksave/quickload to abuse the slot machines for infinite nanites. Honestly this isn't all that important, but if you find yourself getting stuck and need to buy some extra health packs or ammo from the vending machines, it could come in handy. Don't be afraid to reload if you fail a hacking attempt, especially when hacking vending machines. Also note that not all vending machines necessarily improve their selection when hacked, so you might want to reload if you hack a vending machine and find that you preferred the old item selection.
I think the original is just fine as is. I have a vague memory of using a graphics/texture pack the last time I played it, as the graphics really are quite primitive, but it's not necessary. In a way the low poly really suits the monsters, it make them all the more bizarre and horrifying. Is this game even worth playing or is it more nostalgia driven than anything worth playing.SS2 has some of the more entertaining mechanics and character stat/ability development that I've ever played, great game if you can get over the age. It can also be a little grim and difficult to get started but you warm up to it. Just remember that it's a survival horror, not Half Life, so conserve ammo and be very cautious. Honestly if you can't get into SS2 vanilla, and handful of mods aren't going to save this game for you.
This is a very difficult, frustrating, imbalanced game and a few mods will only do so much to fix it. Yes, most of the hype and enthusiastic recommendations for this game are coming from gamers between the ages of 30 and 45 wearing rose tinted nostalgia goggles. It's kinda like when you ask for shooter recommendations, and some 35 year old gamer tells you Goldeneye 64 remains the best shooter ever, then you play the game and it aged horribly. The good news is that SS2 is a HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT game like Ultima Underworld; when you play this game, you get to see what inspired Deus Ex, Dishonored, Bioshock, Dead Space and all that. If you're not a gaming history buff, though, your time would be better spent playing something more modern.Tip if you do go through with playing it: pick Navy as your starting branch and get some points into hacking.
